Jim Ferdon, Director of Georgetown County School District’s Adult Education Center, has been named Georgetown County Association of Educational Office Professionals (GCAEOP) Administrator of the Year.


Ferdon is an administrator whose main goal is to ensure that his faculty, staff, and students experience growth while employed or attending Howard Adult Center.

GCAEOP stated that Ferdon “is a kind and compassionate leader with a unique leadership style. By promoting our local theme, “Grab Opportunity and Lead” he allows his employees to take charge and lead when given the opportunity.”

Ferdon demonstrates respect and concern for all his students, regardless of age, always making them feel welcome, encouraged, and valued.

An application for GCAEOP’s Administrator of the Year is submitted each year to the South Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals (SCAEOP).

GCAEOP is proud to have two previous state winners from the Georgetown County School District: Dr. Randy Dozier, former superintendent; and Myrtle Milton, Executive Director of Support Personnel and Employee Programs.




On October 18, 2019 the Howard Adult Center traveled to Columbia, SC to attend the 2019 Adult Education Fall Training Institute and Celebrating Our Success Awards Luncheon.  The administration and faculty attended training sessions in various areas and received valuable ideas to use in the adult program.  

During the Celebrating Our Success Awards Luncheon Georgetown County Adult Education received several awards. 

 

They are as follows:

 

Directors Hall of Fame Award - Presented to Directors who have 10, 20,or 30 years of service to Adult Education.  This was presented to Jim Ferdon, Director Georgetown County Adult Education - 10 years.

 

Facility Enhancement Award - Presented to Superintendents and Board Chairs who have prioritized adult education environments through development or renovation of a building OR substantial upgrades to their existing adult education facility.  This was presented to Georgetown Adult Education.

 

High School Diploma Award - Presented to the top ten programs with the highest percentage of adult secondary level students who achieved a high school diploma.  This was presented to Georgetown Adult Education with 46.38%.  This was 3rd in the state.
